Licking is a natural and calm behaviour for dogs which triggers the release of ‘happy chemicals’ in the brain. All the toys in our Licky Sticky Range are designed to encourage licking and can be used in all kinds of environments to help calm your critterz or just as a low key enrichment tool. To get the most from your Licky Sticky Toys, first you need to find which of the smear-able treats your dog likes most.
You could offer a tasting plate using a chopping board or plate and have little smears of treats to choose from and see which ones get the best response. Try little dollops of
· Ziwi Peak wet food
· peanut butter- (xylitol free)
· vegemite
· cream cheese
· natural yoghurt
· fish/ham paste
· honey or coconut oil- a quick drizzle and 3 mins in the freezer makes for a long lasting licky treat!
· Bone broth or tuna juice is a nice low calorie option and may do well freezing on a mat (supervise as usual but especially when freezing as this increases the difficulty level and they may try to chew the mat)
We are keen to see your ideas and how much your critterz enjoy themselves so send us your fun videos and photos on our socials or tag us on yours #crazycritterztoybox
Lickimat Slomo
Licking is a nice calm and soothing behaviour for dogs and helps to release all the happy chemicals in the brain.
Lickimats are great for dogs in stressful situations to help calm or soothe. When dogs are stressed typically its harder for them to sit down and concentrate on a puzzle toy but a Lickimat can often be an easier option for them.
Your Lickimat can be used to create positive associations with things like vet checks, brushing, grooming, nail trims, checking over for ticks or even just routine ear checks. Giving them something easy and yummy to do while you do this just makes sense doesn’t it!
Use your dog’s favorite smear-able or we also love Bone Broth or Tuna juice as a low calorie option and in summer you could freeze it or winter heat up your Bone Broth slightly for a yummy nutritional warm treat! This is also great for picky eaters or dogs who may be recovering from surgery.
We love the Slomo for it’s different surfaces and it’s more durable structure makes it much easier to pop in the freezer.

SloDog Slow feeding plate
This is by far our favourite slow feeding plate as it encourages licking and slows down eating without frustration.
Use dry kibble or treats for a super easy option or use sticky or tacky treats (wet kibble) for a harder option. To really get them licking use your smearable options as above. Phatso’s favourite indulgence here is natural yoghurt or weet bix with milk!
Once your dog has the hang of it you could even semi freeze things like tuna juice (low calorie option) or ziwi or even mashed up banana!!!
A really quick treat is to drizzle some coconut oil over it, maybe a drizzle of honey and a splosh of natural yoghurt..freeze for 5 mins then voila… that will take them easy 15 mins to do.
Unlike the Lickimats this is quite sturdy and is fine for most dogs to be left alone with however always monitor them first to see how they interact with it.

Red Silicone Licking Mat
This mat has such a great surface area and rolls up nicely so you can pre-load it, fold and roll and take it with you!
This is our favourite for using the dremel on Phatso’s nails as the large surface area gives him lots to do and the silicone is flexible and allows lots of wins keeping frustration down.
Change the surface area simply by putting an upside down plate underneath- this creates a different a easier challenge for those areas!
This mat is a thinner silicone so we don’t suggest leaving your dog alone with this one!
